Johnnie Walker Launches Limited Edition ‘Jane Walker’ Bottle

Johnnie Walker has unveiled Jane Walker, the first-ever female iteration of the brand’s Striding Man logo, which will debut on a special-edition offering of the Black Label blend.

Johnnie Walker Black Label The Jane Walker Edition will be available nationwide beginning in March to coincide with Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day celebrations. It is 40% ABV and the suggested retail price is $34 per 750-ml. bottle.

Diageo, which owns Johnnie Walker, says the special bottle design represents the brand’s commitment to progress.

“Women have played a significant role in the brand’s history dating back to 1893, when John Walker & Sons purchased the Cardhu distillery from Elizabeth Cumming,” the company says. “Cardhu is one of the single malts that comprises Johnnie Walker Black Label and is considered the heartbeat of the blend. Elizabeth Walker, the wife of founder John Walker, was also fundamental to the creation of their own blended whisky, working alongside John and their son Alexander in the original Walker grocery shop. Today, nearly 50 percent of the brand’s 12 expert blenders are women, with female leadership across marketing and C-Level executives.”

To support this effort as part of Keep Walking America, Johnnie Walker will donate $1 for every bottle of Jane Walker Edition it makes to organizations championing women’s causes, with a total donation of up to $250,000, including a donation of $150,000 to the Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony Statue Fund and its Monumental Women campaign.

Monumental Women, a nonprofit dedicated to creating a monument honoring America’s women suffragists in New York City’s Central Park, where there are 23 statues of historical figures but not one honoring a real woman.

“Important conversations about gender continue to be at the forefront of culture and we strongly believe there is no better time than now to introduce our Jane Walker icon and contribute to pioneering organizations that share our mission,” says Stephanie Jacoby, VP of Johnnie Walker. “We are proud to toast the many achievements of women and everyone on the journey towards progress in gender equality.”

Johnnie Walker will also celebrate the next generation of female leaders by donating a portion of Jane Walker Edition proceeds to She Should Run, who are dedicated to inspiring women to run for office.

Here come the malt’s

Bacardi USA is readying the release of single malt Scotches from distilleries that contribute to the company’s Dewar’s blended Scotch brand. The single malts are slated for a U.S. market rollout in October and November.

The final release will be the Royal Brackla, the first distillery in the 19th century to receive a royal warrant. It will be offered in a 12-year-old version at $60 and a 16-year-old at $200.

craigellachie-13-lA year ago, Bacardi also released the Craigellachie single malt in 13- and 23-year-old expressions, with retail prices of $50 and $280 respectively.

“These are all Highland distilleries, and none of them has been seriously commercialized in the U.S. before,” said Dan Pilas, a Dewar’s vice president and brand managing director. Pilas emphasized that the new focus on these single malts won’t detract from their distilleries’ contributions to Dewar’s. “We’ll still be able to satisfy all our blending requirements,” he said.

Chivas Regal Spices Up U.S. Scotch Market with Introduction of Chivas Regal Extra

Chivas Regal®, the world’s first luxury whisky, today announced the introduction of its newest blend to hit U.S. markets in eight years – Chivas Regal Extra. Chivas Regal Extra is one of the richest, most generous tasting blends within the Scotch category, created by using some of the rarest House whiskies that have matured in Oloroso sherry casks. Currently available in select U.S. markets including Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Chicago, Northern California and Texas, Chivas Extra will be expanding to the rest of the U.S. later in 2015.

Chivas Regal Extra takes its inspiration from founding brothers James and John Chivas, who pioneered and excelled in the art of blending whiskies in the 19th Century. Colin Scott, Chivas Regal Master Blender, has been blending whisky for 25 years and has created a unique and outstanding blended Scotch using some of the rarest malt whiskies from the Chivas inventory.

“The rich and generous taste of Chivas Regal Extra has been created by using some of our rarest whiskies that have matured in Oloroso sherry casks. The mark of its quality lies in its rich and generous taste,” said Scott. The new blend has a fruity, sweet nose with notes of ripe pears, creamy toffee and a hint of ginger. The ripe pears continue on the palate, with sweet tropical flavors of melons and soft notes of vanilla and caramel, blending with spicy notes of cinnamon and hints of almonds.

“Chivas Regal Extra brings together the renowned smoothness of the Chivas house style, using Strathisla Single Malt at the heart of the blend, with a fuller taste profile coming from a higher proportion of malts matured in sherry casks,” said Laurent Cutier, Scotch Brand Director at Pernod Ricard. “The U.S. launch of Chivas Regal Extra marks a milestone for Chivas Regal and we are dedicated to continuing to bring innovative and quality tastes to our U.S. consumers,” Cutier added.

 

NEW Glenmorangie Tùsail

Glenmorangie TùsailGlenmorangie has officially unveiled the latest expression in its specialty Private Edition series, Glenmorangie Tùsail. Rolled out in January, the new entry is made with a rare variety of barley known as Maris Otter, which, according to the brand, creates a complex flavor profile featuring notes of toffee, sweet barley malt, ginger and cinnamon, among others.

Tùsail, which is Scots Gaelic for “originary,” is currently available at select retail locations across the U.S. Tùsail marks the sixth entry in Glenmorangie’s Private Edition lineup, coming on the heels of previous releases Glenmorangie Companta, Sonnalta PX, Finealta, Artein and Ealanta.
